My Top 4 Favorite Moments from the Soul Train Music Awards

Maybe it’s just me, but I am still on a high from the Soul Train Music Awards! This is the best awards show I have seen this year! C’mon! I know you agree. It was jammed packed with star-studded performances, like Jill Scott, Fantasia, Babyface, Jasmine Sullivan, etc. I loved every part of the show.

There were three moments of the show that I couldn’t get enough of. I recorded it on my DVR, so I kept rewinding certain parts over and over again so I can get that, “chill.”

• The Babyface All-star Tribute Performance.
  

  Babyface was the recipient of the 2015 Soul Train Legends Award (he penned some of our favorite songs) and had a all-star performance tribute by Fantasia, Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, Bobby Brown, etc. The performances were slam dunk and brought back some great memories too. •  Jill Scott’s Acceptance Speech and Performance.

  Jilly from Philly showed up and showed out. After she delivered such a touching speech as the recipient of the Lady of Soul Award, she gave the people what they wanted! A powerhouse performance. Here is an excerpt from her moving speech:

• R. Kelly Closed the Show with a “Backyard Party.”

  Kels definitely knows how to move a crowd! The Soul Train Awards saved the best for last. Kelly performed a medley of his hits, including his most recent single, “Backyard Party.” The stage was setup as a “backyard” with a full crowd, food, red cups and a pumped audience. As for his vocals, they were spot on! He didn’t miss a beat.

• Erykah Badu shines as the host of the night.

  My final Soul Train moment is Erykah Badu. If you didn’t know anything about her personality, you did that night! She delivered some great hosting content, laughs, music and even gave us some DJ love by spinning records for acts, like Eddie Lavert, Chrisette Michelle and K-Ci, yes, you read it right…K-Ci. I wish she can be the host for years to come – she did an excellent job.
